Lowland gorillas are more adaptable to captivity compared to mountain gorillas. Mountain gorillas have specific habitat requirements and are more sensitive to changes in their environment, making it challenging to replicate their natural habitat in a zoo setting. Additionally, mountain gorillas are a critically endangered species with a small population size, so efforts are focused on protecting them in their natural habitat rather than keeping them in captivity. **

Yes, gorillas are primarily herbivores, which means they mainly eat plants. Their diet consists of fruits, leaves, stems, and shoots. However, they may occasionally eat insects or small animals. Overall, gorillas are considered to be vegetarian animals. **

Gorillas do not have the physical ability to speak like humans due to differences in their vocal anatomy. However, they are capable of communicating through a variety of vocalizations, gestures, and body language. They use sounds such as grunts, hoots, and barks to convey different messages to each other. While they cannot speak in the same way humans do, gorillas have complex communication systems that allow them to interact effectively within their social groups. **

Yes, gorillas are capable of swimming. While they may not be as adept at swimming as some other primates, they are known to enter water and swim when necessary. In the wild, gorillas have been observed crossing rivers and swimming short distances. In captivity, gorillas have also been known to enjoy swimming as a form of enrichment and exercise. **

Yes, gorillas are considered to be highly intelligent animals. They have been observed using tools, displaying problem-solving skills, and exhibiting complex social behaviors. Gorillas also have the ability to learn sign language and communicate with humans. Their cognitive abilities and emotional intelligence are comparable to that of other great apes, such as chimpanzees and orangutans. **

Gorillas are primarily herbivores and their diet mainly consists of fruits, leaves, and vegetation. While gorillas may occasionally consume small insects or other animals, it is unlikely that they would seek out or eat mozzarella cheese as it is a dairy product. Gorillas have not evolved to digest dairy products like cheese, so it is best to stick to their natural plant-based diet to ensure their health and well-being. **

Gorillas move primarily by walking on all fours using their knuckles for support, a movement known as knuckle-walking. They are also capable of bipedal walking for short distances, standing upright on their hind legs while using their arms for balance. Gorillas are powerful and agile climbers, using their arms and legs to navigate through trees and dense vegetation in their natural habitat. Overall, gorillas are well-adapted for both terrestrial and arboreal movement. **

Yes, the zoo in Magdeburg has had gorillas in the past. They had a group of western lowland gorillas, which included a silverback gorilla named Kibo. However, Kibo passed away in 2015, and the zoo currently does not have any gorillas on display. **
