The first match saw Sue Abela playing against her 19 year old son Justin Caruana Scicluna, while in the other match, another experienced bowler Mark Spiteri placed against the 2009 under 23 champion, Rankin Luke Camilleri.Justin won the first game easily 221 against Sue’s 181, but Sue then bounced back and took the 2nd game 234, 215.However Justin was too strong for his mother on the day and won the last match 243, 214. In the other game Mark won the first game 239, 215.Mirroring the other matches Rankin then came back and won the 2nd game 245, 217 while the last game was won by Spiteri 254, 236. It was unlucky for Rankin to be out for the finals with a 232 average.
Justin faced Mark in the final for the best out of three games. Mark won first game with 220, 209. Justin then won the 2nd game 180, 169 the low scores mirroring the bowlers’ fatigue after having played no less than 14 games in the span of 4 hours.
The final game went head to head till the last few frames when Justin got a split which gave Mark the slight advantage and won the game and the Championships 192, 171. This tournament was of a high scoring standard and the future for bowling looks promising when you consider we had two youths, Justin Caruana Scicluna and Rankin Camilleri in the finals playing against the big guns.
The high game of the tournament went to Philippe Vancell with 278 pins.
